Leghorn

Leghorns, are excellent egg-layers and broodiness (the desire to hatch eggs) has nearly all been bred out of them. Leghorns are usually hatched out in incubators. A good hen will lay roughly 350 eggs a year

Leghorns are one of the most popular breeds of chicken. They produce most of the world's white eggs. The breed originated in Italy, but most of the colour varieties were developed in Great Britain and America. The birds are found in both single comb and rose comb forms and in many colours, including White, Buff, Silver, Red, Cuckoo, Mottled and Brown among others. When you see a rooster in a painting or an advert it will usually be a slim-bodied bird with long sickle (tail) feathers and a very large single comb: this is a typical male Leghorn.
